Food Tech
Taking over a voice-enabled cooking platform for Napkin Recipes following a vendor exit, restoring reliability without disrupting live users.

We worked with Napkin Recipes following the exit of an initial development partner to assume responsibility for an inherited, voice-enabled food technology platform. The system was already in live use, making continuity, reliability, and predictable behaviour essential.
Our role was to take over delivery without disrupting everyday usage, ensuring the platform could continue to function consistently across devices, environments, and real-world cooking scenarios.
Situation and context
The platform relied on voice interaction, real-time instruction, and dynamic content flow. Following the vendor transition, gaps in documentation, flow control, and session handling introduced fragility at moments where timing and attention were critical.
Any interruption or inconsistency risked undermining user confidence, particularly in hands-free environments where recovery options were limited.
We assumed delivery responsibility for the inherited platform, addressing weaknesses introduced during the vendor transition. This included restoring clarity around system behaviour, strengthening session handling, and ensuring instruction flows remained reliable when users paused, repeated, or deviated from recipes.
The focus was on controlled continuation rather than redesign, allowing the platform to remain dependable while ownership and technical responsibility transitioned cleanly.
Voice-enabled platform continuity
The platform was structured to support practical, everyday use rather than ongoing experimentation. Supporting features such as shopping lists, timers, and guidance were aligned to operate reliably in parallel, ensuring continuity during routine cooking activity.
By prioritising delivery control and system continuity, the platform could remain in service while allowing for incremental improvement without compromising reliability or user trust.
